Database Performance Optimizations on Shared Hosting

As far as possible, use the following strategies to ensure efficient use of resources and improved performance.

1. Indexing: Use suitable indexes, avoid query inefficient ones.

2. Query Optimization: Use efficient queries, avoid unnecessary columns in SELECT statements, use JOIN if apt.

3. Caching: Use caching to reuse/store frequently accessed data, reduce number of queries to DB.

4. Batch Operations: Group similar operations together to minimize DB hits.

5. Connection Pooling: Use connection pooling to reduce the overhead for establishing/closing connections.

6. Analyze and Monitor: Regularly analyze your database performance and monitor slow queries to identify bottlenecks.

7. Optimize Data Types: Choose apt data types for your columns to save space and improve query performance. Avoid OR in WHERE clauses (especially across multiple columns).

8. Limit Use of Wildcards: Especially at the beginning of a string (%string) to avoid full table scans.

9. Regular Maintenance: updating statistics, fragmentation check, cleaning up old data, etc will help maintain top performance.
